Team Cornhole Rules (4+ Players Per Team)
1. Teams & Rosters
-
Each team must have a minimum of 4 players on the roster.
-
Only 2 players per team may be actively throwing in a given frame, but substitutions are allowed at any time between frames during league play.
-
If all rostered players are present, each player must throw at least once during the match.
-
All players must be registered in the league to participate.
-
League Play: Subs are allowed for $10 per game.
-
Tournament Play: No subs allowed — only registered roster players may compete.
2. Equipment
-
Teams must use the official cornhole bags provided by the league.
-
No outside bags are allowed.
3. Substitution Rules (League Play Only)
-
Teams may rotate players in and out freely between frames.
-
A sub may enter before any throw within a frame, but once a player begins their 4 throws, they must finish that frame.
-
No player may throw more than two consecutive frames without a substitution, unless the team has fewer than 4 players available.
-
Tournament matches must be played with the roster only — no subs.
4. Match Format
-
Matches are played as best 2 out of 3 games.
-
Each game is played to 21 points.
-
The game ends immediately when a team reaches 21 points or more — cancellation scoring, and no need to land on exactly 21.
5. Gameplay
-
Standard cornhole setup: boards 27 feet apart, each player gets 4 bags per frame.
-
Teams alternate throws, one bag at a time.
-
Scoring:
-
3 points = bag in the hole.
-
1 point = bag on the board.
-
First team to reach or exceed 21 points wins.
-
-
Score Confirmation Rule: After each completed frame, both teams must agree on the score before starting the next frame. If there’s a dispute, play pauses until resolved.
6. Player Rotation Example
-
Frame 1: Player A & B throw.
-
Frame 2: Player C subs in for Player A.
-
Frame 3: Player D subs in for Player B.
-
Frame 4: Back to A & C, etc.
This rotation keeps all 4+ players involved but allows flexibility if a team has a “hot hand.”
7. Sportsmanship & Timing
-
Players have 15 seconds to throw once they step onto the board area.
-
Substitutions should be announced before the start of a frame (league play only).
-
Games typically last 15–25 minutes each, so a full match (best of 3) will run about 40–60 minutes.
Would you like me to now put this into a clean, one-page handout (with headers, bullets, and maybe bold highlights for “No subs in tournament” so teams don’t miss it)?
